IFE system redesign

Overview

Kuwait Airways’ in-flight entertainment interface felt outdated and didn’t offer a smooth, intuitive experience. The brand was also inconsistent, with the logo missing throughout the interface.

I redesigned the system to feel modern, intuitive, and engaging while balancing brand identity with accessibility. After meeting with the airline and benchmarking Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines, I strengthened the brand through its signature blue palette and the Blue Bird entertainment logo, and added culturally relevant features like an Islamiyat tab and a Discover Kuwait widget.

Previous Design

Kuwait Airways’ previous GUI design was outdated and failed to provide a smooth, intuitive user experience. Additionally, the brand identity was inconsistent, with the logo missing throughout the interface.

My Design

By creating a more modern design that accurately reflects the airline’s brand, passengers will enjoy a more seamless and engaging experience. This updated interface will not only improve usability but also strengthen the overall connection between the airline and its customers.

Research & Discovery

I met with Kuwait Airways in person and through virtual meetings to acquire an in-depth understanding of their brand and align with project goals and constraints.

To inform the redesign of Kuwait Airways’ inflight entertainment system, I conducted a detailed competitor analysis of major airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines. I assessed their user interfaces, content libraries, system performance, and additional features like seat integration and Wi-Fi access.

I also explored how competitors incorporate regional content and personalized recommendations. Passenger feedback from various platforms helped me identify pain points and opportunities for improvement. This research enabled me to pinpoint areas where Kuwait Airways could innovate and elevate the overall passenger experience.

Competitor Analysis

Based on this research, I concluded that the redesigned IFE for Kuwait Airways should emphasize a strong brand identity, showcased through the consistent use of their signature blue color palette and the Blue Bird entertainment logo integrated throughout the interface. Additionally, to remain competitive with leading international carriers, it was crucial to incorporate culturally relevant features such as the dedicated Islamiyat tab and a Discover Kuwait widget.
